Metal Roofing and Cladding Fabrication

Standing Seam Roofing System

Since the late 1950s, advances in continuous roll-forming technology have enabled metal roofing materials to be supplied in coils. This development supported the widespread adoption of standing seam roofing systems made from continuous-length panels.

Roof panels can be roll-formed to the required length directly at the project site, eliminating longitudinal joints along the roof slope. Adjacent panels are mechanically seamed on site using portable seaming machines or hand tools, leaving the principal joints aligned with the direction of drainage.

On-site roll forming removes many of the transportation restrictions associated with long panels. It reduces the number of joints, improves the weather resistance of the roof and increases installation efficiency. The same system can also be used for architectural wall cladding.

The combination of longitudinal standing seams and curved continuous-length panels makes it possible to construct spherical, elliptical, conical, domed and other complex curved roof forms. This gives architects greater freedom to translate distinctive exterior concepts into buildable metal-envelope solutions.

Standing seam systems are well established throughout Europe and North America. Combining traditional metal craftsmanship with contemporary architectural expression, they have become a defining feature of many prominent urban buildings.

Panel Roll-Forming Capability

  • Available profiles: 1-inch standing seam, 1.5-inch standing seam and snap-lock

  • Forming speed: Approximately 23 m/min

  • Coil feed width: 380–760 mm

  • Pre-coated steel coil thickness: 0.3–0.8 mm

  • Pre-coated aluminum coil thickness: 0.7–1.0 mm

  • Copper coil thickness: 0.5–0.7 mm

  • Stainless-steel thickness: 0.5 mm

Panel Curving Capability

  • Compatible profiles: 1-inch and 1.5-inch standing seam

  • Processing speed: Continuously adjustable from 0 to 12 m/min

  • Coil feed width: 300–810 mm

  • Minimum curving radius for copper, aluminum and titanium-zinc: ≥600 mm

  • Minimum curving radius for steel and stainless steel: ≥1,500 mm

  • Maximum thickness for copper, aluminum and titanium-zinc: ≤0.8 mm

  • Maximum steel thickness: ≤0.7 mm

  • Maximum stainless-steel thickness: ≤0.5 mm

Mechanical Seaming Capability

  • Compatible profiles: 1-inch and 1.5-inch standing seam

  • Processing speed: Continuously adjustable up to 9 m/min

  • Maximum thickness for copper, aluminum and titanium-zinc: ≤0.8 mm

  • Maximum steel thickness: ≤0.7 mm

Flat-Lock Panel System

Like the standing seam system, the flat-lock panel system is a long-established solution for metal roofing and wall cladding.

Its clean yet distinctive three-dimensional appearance, together with its ability to adapt to a wide variety of roof and façade forms, makes it a preferred choice for many architects.

Panels can be formed either in the factory or at the installation site using conventional forming equipment—or, for certain details, hand tools. This flexible manufacturing and installation process has contributed to the system’s widespread use across architectural roofing and cladding projects.
